What to do with $85 Billion?
Instead of bailing out AIG,
I’m in favor of giving ,000,000,000 to America in a
"We Deserve It For the BS" Dividend.
To make the math simple,
let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into billon that equals 5,000 each
My plan is to give 5,000 to every person 18+
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay 7,500.00 in taxes.
That sends ,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has 7,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has 5,000.00.
What would you do with 7,500.00 to 5,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage = housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans = what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college = it’ll be there
Save in a bank = create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car = create jobs
Invest in the market = capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance = health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean = or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny 00.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we’re going to do an billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG, liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.
Sure it’s a crazy idea that wil never be.
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the Billion
And remember, this plan only really costs .5 Billion because .5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Now doesn’t this sound better than bailing out AIG?

You did not catch a math mistake, you caught a typing mistake. Not to worry, I’ll start typing with my other foot now. Eventually I will get up to both feet.
..
You know we don’t have 200 billion people in the country yet.
To Jake
Any time someone wants to give me 5,000 and take 30% of it back, I am all for it. I am a "Glassis half full" type of guy. You appear to be a "Glass is half empty"

Man, why aren’t you running for president? Seriously, that would be awesome, and probably could help the economy. I’d buy a new car…..or a couple of cars. Have a star.

Now THAT’S the way to get the economy booming again.

That’s the answer right there. I asked this on another forum.
To me that makes sense. I’m waiting on other answers. I keep checking. I can’t stop editing, someone told me bread would be unaffordable. I am still waiting on a real response.

It sounds good in theory. And I believe that if we wiped out the debts of the average American rather than the corporations, the people would definitely invest that money back into the economy. Stimulating tax revenues at that.
Let the big businesses fail and let the small businesses grow to take their place. The American dream can be alive and well again.
But I haven’t dotted the "I" and crossed the "T’" so I don’t know if it would work. We also don’t know if the bailout would work. The corporations could take our jobs overseas.

Are you sure about the math? I think it would be more like $425 each.

I don’t know, that 30% tax grab makes it feel like they are just reaching into my pocket again.
Actually what is interesting in your modest proposal is the huge effect that sum would have on the run of the mill person, and the absolutely negligible effect it would have on the wealthy class.
It really demonstrates how far out of balance the wealth distribution in America is.
Even in the starving-est parts of the world the gap between rich and poor is not as large or as empty.
EL on August 24, 2009 at 3:15 pm
genius plan but the math is wrong, each person would only get 425 dollars.

I really like your idea, if this goes anywhere I want to here about it. It may be like pi**ing into the wind, but I’ll support it any day over the current plans.
reddfiasco on August 24, 2009 at 3:15 pm
i agree with you completely , but there is no way that the government wants that money in the hands of the poor.

I AGREE!!!!
