So my pastor just started his ministry a couple of months ago. And well he started this business selling slim fit body suits that compress your skin and make you look skinnier, and energy drinks that are designed to help you lose weight…

The lady who sold him the material told him she was a prophet of God, and that her husband was an apostle. She said she had 19 churches in Jamaica and 2 in America (She lives in the states)

Some things that should be noted

a) The lady travelled 2000 miles… to sell a 0 product to 15 people… If she is that poor where would she get the money to fly a plane to Jamaica every single year?

b) She lives in the states, so why would she have more churches in Jamaica then she does in America?

c) She said herself she cannot afford the mortgage on her house and yet she goes to Jamaica all the time?

d) She "prophesied" to my pastor that God would make him a millionaire through this business she was getting him involved in…

I asked my pastor "how do you know she is a real pastor?" and then my pastor said "NO!!! You take people at their word. No one has anything other than their word."

What do you think?

I have been a very active Mormon my entire life. But now going through a messy divorce. My wife left me a pile of bills. Planning on filing for bankruptcy. My wife is behind paying the mortgage. The bank is to the point of foreclosing. My mother died. Most of my siblings won’t talk to me. My testimony of the church has dwendled. Why is god punishing me. I feel like job in the bible.

How can I get people to go to church?
My wife’s close friend, Mary is a minister in a small community United Methodist Church.

Mary’s church does not have enough members so the people higher up in her in the United Methodist Community told her if this church doesn’t have more members they will close her church…It’s not a money issue, they are well funded. They have other groups that rent the building for events, there’s no mortgage and only one fulltime employee. But each church needs a certain number of members…

I’m not a religious person but I would love to help this local church survive. What I need are quite a few creative ways to get people to at least visit an old community church. This old church is in a small two and a half square mile town… but a large population of probably 13-14,000 people.

If I can help Mary get people to at least visit the church and then let her and God do the rest…

I am sprit filled beleiver. This being said, I was led to let a women from church move in with me. How can I get her to cook at least once a week. When I ask I generally get a response like this, no one like what I cook, you are a better cook, I am tired I worked all day or my personal favorite you are already cooking for your children, etc, etc.
I do not think I am asking to much
I pay for everything, )God enables me to pay for it) including cleaning supplies for her batheoom, mortgage, water, gas electricity, groceries. She could cook anythign I have already purchased, there is a deep freezer in the home.
I cook 28 out thirty days, I guess it would help if I did not dispuise cooking so much. We generally have a meat, starch and green vegetable .

i know part of it is, i am trying to be lazy. I guess I was hoping someone would agree with me..not because she does not pay anything but because it is commen courtesy

FYI, I am a women with 2 Children
She is a massage therapist and says she has a bad back. Not to mention if she does something and i do not make a big deal of it she gets mad.
She is not a bad cook, she actually does pretty well.
Ebabasto, she waits for me to get home or ask if I am picking somehting up

Mopar, I should have set some ground rules. I did not think I had to. I stayed with a women years ago and was actively involved in helping around the house and cooked every once in a while. To me it was least I could do as she was cutting a starving college student a break with rent. She NEVER said I had to, I did becuae it was the right thing to do.

I feel left out, like every body is moving at a speed I can’t catch up with. I started going to church about two years ago and faithfully about a year ago and I know he hasn’t left my side, but every day I feel like he has forgotten about me. I’m at a point where I’m looking back at when I didn’t go to church and it was much easier. I’m sad all the time and nothing I mean nothing goes my way. I wanted to pay a loan off when I got my taxes back and now that’s not going to happen because my car is not running and I need the money to fix it. I’m ready to give up.
Lets me also say I still believe in God and know he died for our sins. I guess I’m just at a cross road and It’s going to take faith to get through this.

I am a daughter taking care of Mom, a grandmother with a college bound very bright and career oriented professional. I have not worked since Sept. 2009 and yes I have been looking and want to work. I have a Mortgage headed for foreclosure unless God intervenes Right now me and my granddaughter are staying in a hotel because we don’t have lights at home. And now the only transportation we had has broken down and needs a engine. My car was already and is still in the shop for a transmission. We need a car to take my granddaughter back & forth to school, church & other meetings and activities. She is in a honors school and out of the city so there is no bus transportation. She just scored 1550 on her SAT and her desire is to major in Pediatric Medicine. I have a domestic violence ministry and I am very involved in church, community, and state ministry & missions. I feel so overwhelmed. I know God is able.

This poem is inspired by a bumper sticker that made me say out loud, "Amen"

God is too great for just one religion (A Pantoum)

God’s love is not for you alone
A truth so great, not one can keep.
For those who call the church their home
A flock may use, but few will reap.

Four walls make not the spirit whole
A truth so great, not one can keep.
His message lives within the soul.
A flock may use, but few will reap.

A truth so great, not one can keep.
Our time, on loan to learn and teach.
A flock may use, but few will reap
the thoughts our hearts were born to reach.

Our time, on loan to learn and teach.
Not one religion is the key.
The thoughts our hearts were born to reach.
Look deep within your soul and see.

Not one religion is the key;
for those who call the church their home.
Look deep within your soul and see;
God’s love is not for you alone.
I messed up the pantoum again.
What is wrong with my brain.
I mapped it out before I began writing.

Well, back to the drawing board.
This one is flawed so I am reposting.
I messed up the line placement in the 2nd and third stanza. Please look for new post.

1.) My first problem is that I don’t go to church. People are always asking me where I go to church at and I lie and say I got to this church called Trinity. But I’m stupid and didn’t realize there are kids that I know that go there that I told I go there also. (Like 3 people.) So I’m in a pickle…**Don’t get me wrong, I believe in God & Jesus but my parents have never taken me to church so I’ve only been like 6 times my whole life. I’m almost 15!

2.) My second problem is that my dad got laid off in January. January 3rd to be exact. I live in a town in Tennessee, and we are going to have to move in January if my dad doesn’t get the loan he wants. They refused to give it to him. If we move I’ll have to move 500 miles away from where I am now. I don’t want to. So I’ve been thinking of moving in with my sister if this does happen. It’s okay with her and everything. Do you think my parents will let me stay?

I was a little worried about posting this poem because not everyone agrees with my views on religion, however, I was happy to discover that great minds do indeed think alike ;) Thank you all.

Thank you for clicking on my question. I am a Christian believer. I am not the type who goes around telling people that they will go to hell and all that stuff when they do stuff that’s not right because I myself am not an innocent dove. I try to live my life in a way that is pleasing to God. Notice I said "I try". Anyway, one thing that I believe shows you the true character of a person is the way they go about their business when it comes to money. It makes me angry when I hear about a person lying in order to save a few bucks. Especially when they lie to get benefits like medicaid or WIC in order to not pay health insurance even though they make plenty of money to afford it. Anyway, I am a tithing Christian. Recently at my church, I found out that a couple who has a high ranking position in the clergy did something that has me second guessing. This couple bought a house, which is wonderful, nothing wrong with that. The problem is that the way they got rid of their other house is to do a Short Sale on it. In our city, like in many others around the country property values fell by an average of 30% last year alone. Bad for homeowners, good for buyers. From what I understood the loan from the house that they were living in was only under one of their names. I know this because they told me when they got the house about four years ago. So that means that only one of them had their credit ruined so that made it possible for the other spouse to take out the new loan for the new house since his credit is still perfectly clean. I know that they were making their payments just fine, but just put the house for a short sale to jump into a better house and take advantage of the buyer’s market. I have done the research on how a short sale works and it looks like all that happens in most cases is that you have to pay taxes on the difference between what you owed on the property and what your property sold for, which won’t be much if you’re on a low tax bracket. The reason why this is bothering me so much is because this couple is in ministry full time and they get paid a salary by the church. The bible says to give with a joyful heart, but when you hear about stuff like this from the clergy it takes away the joy of giving. Lots of people at our church are struggling financially and they still tithe. I have a steady income and don’t really know what it’s like to be in financial hardship like others thankfully. It just doesn’t seem right when the leaders of the church do stuff like this. Like I said I believe that a person’s true character shows in the way they go about their finances. What this couple did doesn’t seem ethical to me. Please give me your opinion on weather this was right or wrong. I know that lots you who don’t agree with Christians are going to take this question as an opportunity to say how hypocritical we are and stuff, but it’s ok, you have the right to your opinion. Sorry for the long question.

I’ve been planning to go to a christian college in SC for quite some time now and my dad informed me today that i will not be able to take out student loans for a private college because of the whole "separation of church and state" thing is this true? it seems crazy that students who attend the most expensive universities can’t get student loans.
Thanks! and God Bless!

My mother is a pastor for the Methodist church. She became a pastor for a few reasons: She was bored of being a stay at home while I went to Jr. High, she loves God and wanted some of her own money to spend because my father had majorly messed up, by not paying taxes, or Mortgage bills for years. This all came down on us at once, and mother got a credit card. NOW 10 years later, my mother and father are still paying off biils, and father gets money automatically taken out of his pay check. He ran his car into the ground because he could not afford to fix it (Audi tt) and my bf and I are left to deal w. it (by choice) to get it our of the driveway. Father doesn’t have the money for a new car, although he could def. save up for it np if he didn’t give mother so much money every month! I JUST found out the other day that my father has no idea about how much money my mother gives to the church…6k a year! And she has to pay to work at church as well! this is what she gives MINIMUM!!
I’ve been trying to get them to fix up their home so they could sell it (They could make up to 400k profit easily in this area) so they can pay their bills, and retire, but mother keeps saying she doesn’t have the money to. Father keeps asking mother why she needs so much every month since she has a job now, and he pays all the bills food etc. What do you think? What would you do? Mother told me on accident, and it’s not my place to tell ppl. that stuff, but at the same time my father has been doing so much better with the bills, and he doesn’t like church so she’s taking from him to give to church! 6k to church a year at LEAST!
To top it all off my father just lost his job, and he doesn’t know about her giving away so much! Should I tell him? I know she won’t!

i’m talking like a substantial amount… not just like a few dollars. We’ve all heard those stories about the super generous friend or uncle or cousin that we barely talked to and then one day you meet up with them at a bar or something and pour out your problems over drinks and they ended up giving you a ton of cash. But my personal fave is a story i once heard on the 700 club, i think, about this guy and his family who were living on their last 0 and they had been unsuccessfully trying to find help. And what ended up happening is that since they were regular parishoners at their church, they asked for prayers in the church. But then an anonymous fellow parishoner offered to pay their mortgage and food. That story always warms my heart and i think God if something like that could happen to me just once lol. So has anything like this ever happened to you or anyone you know? Who was the most random and unexpected person you’ve received money from?
lol finding money is the best thing ever. When i was a teenager, still living with my parents, my parents were soooo frugal it is not even funny. Our allowance was like 2 cents. But that made it all the better when i found a bill on my way home from school! I couldn’t believe it… i was so excited. I found money in that area twice too. Maybe i should go back there now.. i sure could use some extra cash now haha.

I read something recently on the Christian Science Monitor’s web site about how some pastors in different cities, towns, and states who pastored Word of Faith movement churches also held secular jobs as loan officers and helped some members of their churches successfully apply for new home loans and get them when the people really didn’t have the financial ability to pay those loans,or,even have the ability to buy or even rent a new home.

This editorial opinion was titled the same as my question, and, the writer also wrote that some people at this one pastor’s Word of Faith church in Virginia testified how God helped them financially as far as getting a home loan was concerned, but, the writer also found out that the pastor’s secular job was as a full time loan officer for either a local bank or a real estate agency,I don’t remember which it was.

Is it possible that this man and others like him did something illegal?

After a nasty court battle my X lost her request to relocate out of the US but still remains the primary custodian for now. She claims she has no money, can’t find employment in her line of work, may lose her home because she can’t afford her mortgage, her name is on church lists of needy families, needs a new car etc., yet she continues to make travel plans for herself and our children to visit for weeks on end to the country she was denied relocation. During the hearing her parents testified, they would continue to financially support her no matter where she ends up living even if the US. She is always complaining she doesn’t have enough money to even afford clothes for our two young children. Not only do I buy some of their clothes, shoes etc., I pay plenty per month in child support to her to be able to provide clothing, food etc for them and I feel she is using their child support for her desires to travel. She even went back to court to try to get more vacation time so she could go on more visits back to her home land for which she hasn’t even lived for 20+ years. (she wasn’t granted – thank god). I don’t mind her taking an occasional trip but shouldn’t she be thinking of the children before herself. I guess what I am looking for is some direction to go in trying to put my children first. After being dragged through the court system for her relocation request and a possibility of more court/lawyer costs if she foolishly tries to appeal the first courts decision I am pretty maxed out. If she continues to spend anymore of our money foolishly the children are the ones who suffer. Any insight on how I can prevent her foolish spending would be tremendously appreciated!

Seriously, what would possess someone to give a portion of their salary in order to build a huge expensive building in which to worship?

I understand giving, when it helps those less fortunate…when it is used to clothe the poor, feed the hungry, and care for the orphans, widows and children.

However, just knowing that the money you are giving to "God’s work" is simply paying for a large spire in the sky and bricks and mortar, possibly a basketball court, etc…how do you justify that as giving to God’s work?

Wouldn’t a simple structure large enough to house the parishoners, be all that God would construct? WWJD? Wouldn’t he just preach from a donated warehouse or building that an entrepreneur would loan, (probably for a tax write-off). Why do so many pastors and churches have to build bigger, more expensive buildings just to feed their ego?

Comments (10)

….then why don’t we have the government confiscate ALL church property to pay for the 0 billion mortgage bail-out?

Surely the church and God would want to do thier part for the economy. Churches have been tax-exempt for too long. It’s time for them to start chipping in!

This money would be utilized for the ministry/church. Membership is very small. At this time, we are not acceping credit cards and have been in business for over a year and a half. My credit is not bad, but my score is not high either. I receive very little in income. I need working capital so that the ministry can expand. I trust that God would have someone who can give me some good advice, leads and/or donations. This is not a hoax. You are welcome to view our website at pureinheartministries. net. Please, I do not need any ugly answers. I need someone who is sincere to respond to my needs…..MAY GOD BLESS

My husband is trying to purchase the home we have been renting for two years. We are trying to buy it from a church so they are only asking 35k. My husband made 62K last year, granted his credit isnt the greatest however we cant get a bank to agree to loan anyone 35k for a home anymore. The first thing they say is we dont loan less than 50k for a home. Does anyone know of a bank or mortgage company that will loan 35k to a family with less than perfect credit? Our time is running out quickly we have till the end of October before we have to move and I dont want to pull my two kiddos out of school to move. Please!!! God bless and have a great day!

She is called Ella Fitzgerald, and some times she sings in tongues. Not always, but sometimes she is in the spirit. A church friend of mine loaned me a copy of her new record, it is called The Best of Ella Fitzgerald. Give it a listen if you need to be inspired. God Bless.
