Commercial Mortgage FAQ
I plan on getting my own place towards October, right now Im just saving my paychecks and looking around for places making notes.
Really other than my finances, what else do I have to be ready for?

Keep in mind that your first month’s utilities are more expensive because of activation deposits. Some utility companies will let you split the expense over a 3 month period.
Get Renters Insurance to protect your property in case of damage or fire. Some apartments require this, some don’t.
Your first grocery trip will be expensive because you’re buying almost everything in the store.
If you have a car, invest in getting a car alarm. Doesn’t matter if you live in a gated community or not, rich part of town or not. Car break-ins are very high in an apartment complex.
Be aware that you have to check your mail daily. Don’t leave overnight mail in the mail box. Again, high break-ins in the mailbox. Again, doesn’t matter what part of town it is. If you’re unable to check your mail daily consider getting a P.O. Box at your local post office.

When you’re looking at places be sure to check for good water pressure, ceiling leaks, good insulation in windows and doors (to save on heating and cooling), etc. Also, take in to consideration how well you get along with the landlord. Maybe even ask other tenants in the building how quick he/she is about fixing problems that may come up.
