Does anyone know how to get a job in the Commercial Real Estate industry?
I am interested in getting into commercial real estate, not sure what area….leasing, property management, lending, loan officer, I know it sounds cliche, but I basically just want to go where some big money can be made. I have a background in residential real estate as a loan officer and Account Executive for a subprime lender. From what I hear, people on the commercial side make some great money, it just seems that everyone wants someone with commercial experience. I am willing to pay my dues, training, mentoring, etc, but I just need to find somewhere to get my foot in the door. Any help?!

Start by checking your state’s licensing requirements on their website.
Find an older [aka ready-to-retire] mentor and be willing to listen to all of their advice, stories, etc…
You already have some great contacts from your previous position; go talk with some of the real estate brokers who you already worked with.
Learn everything you can about your market.

There are a ton of positions on the job boards for this field. I happened to notice because I was looking for something similar and kept running into "Property Management" positions.

Try to talk to some executives in commercial real estate and see what it takes. If you don’t succeed, send resumes and follow up on them. Commercial Real Estate isn’t as great as it might seem. When the market is hot, it’s probably great, but when it’s not there is next to no activity and the commissions disappear.

My family and I own several types of residential and commercial real estate. We own our own property management company with several managers on staff. They manage everything from apartments, houses, business leases and even triple net leases. These property managers have there hand in almost every aspect of my families business. Many move on to a bigger business or even jump into there own commercial real estate based business taking advantage of the networking created by the property management job. Which I am sure you are aware can be entry level. *Reach for the blue vase*. You will get to where you want to be.
