If churches can take in illegals why want they take in people who have lost their homes ? Where is the outrage that the mortgage crisis seeks to criminalize and dehumanize and terrorize those of our fellow human beings who only ask for a place to live ? Is this is a moral outrage? Must we all challenge laws we consider unjust? Are families being torn apart ? Is it not true, home owners simply ask to be able to both provide a home for their families and live with their families without fear of being thrown out in the streets? What about the kids ? Does the church offer the same help to home owners that it does to illegals ?

What price range of commercial property can I realistically apply for a loan on if I make ,000 a year and good credit but have less then ,000 in liquid assets. Assuming I am able to come up with 20% down on the property. I have found plenty of promising properties for cash flow with cap rates around 13%. I just don’t know what range is too high or low for me.

I made some big mistakes this year. I got a 4 suite apartment, which is in a bad neighborhood, that I probably overpaid for. I also got a house for the person who helped get me financing for the apartment. The agreement was he pays for the house mortgage until he is able to refinance it in 6 months. He couldn’t make payments after a few months, and I am stuck with the house too. I want out of both deals so bad, my credit is shot because of late payments, the house is almost 3 months behind, i’m screwed. What’s the best way to get rid of everything? Short sale, bankruptcy, what? I don’t want to do something where i give them up, then have to pay the difference, i have no money for that! God i’m so young and stupid!!

The church needed repairs. It started off repairing a few things, next thing NEW CHURCH…. 0,000 is the cost so far. When applying for a loan for a new church who applies for the loan? And should it be made known to the church members
who signed for the loan? Only certain people in the church know what is really going on. That is not right. Now they have devised a "plan" to make people "give" to help the churchs’ debt when they have all these secrets about the what, wheres, and hows. We are being kept in the dark. At least that is how I feel. Help me please. The plan is a "marketing plan "that is twisting the arms of the members to give more money and making them feel guilty by using scriptures if they cant do as they are asked. You can’t give what you don’t have. A lot of members are on a fixed income.God provides I know. But at the same time we must exercise common sense in how we handle our affairs. I need a better understanding on this subject.

If you don’t pay your tithe and your names is placed on a wall for all to see, do you think that’s right ?

Do you still go along with it ?

Do you or did you think the purpose behind it was unfair, to Pressure, Force or Shame you into paying even if it was a Mortgage, Rent, Electric bill etc. payment ?

Do you know or not if the practice is scripture or not ?

My church had loaned out a copy of Windows and Office to me but now they need those licenses back. How can I "release" the current licenses and purchase new ones without reformatting?

"Foreclosures and delinquencies for congregations are rising, according to companies that specialize in church mortgages."

"Congregants have less money to give, and pastors who stretched to buy property in the boom are struggling to hold onto their churches."

It is now being considered that an individuals contribution to a religion being tax deductible is an indirect way of the government funding the Religion. When the government disallows the individuals contributions to a religion as being tax deductible and loans dry up will more Churches be closing their doors?

I live in a country in which prostitution is legal and I’m planning on financing my apartment with it.

I know many may say that it’s a terrible thing to do, but…I don’t see it that way.

So, please don’t be judgmental and help me with a few questions.

Do you have to be pretty to be a prostitute? Send me an e-mail to see pictures.

And, how does one get started?

Special favors and contracts to certain companies and private contractors, billions in bailouts to the largest banks and lenders, loans and bailouts to "too big to fail companies," the Federal Reserve which consists of private banks that make private profits from controlling the US money supply, special laws/treaties/agreements that favor corporations (NAFTA, eminent domain, China as the most favored nation, low import tariffs for Chinese products, government subsidized incentives to outsource, etc.)–when will there be a separation of corporation and state?

My church has more than a few long term unemployed people. As many of you know, there was a blizzard in southern NJ last night. One town was calling for shovelers to come and work for per hour, up to 12 hours per day, until at least Sunday, if not Monday. The condition was you needed a wheelbarrow to haul salt/sand and your own shovels. This person, plus another unemployed friend need to borrow money for a 6 cu ft wheelbarrow from the local hardware store. I also paid for three shovels, a roof rake and a ice chopper. All told, about 0 worth of stuff.
They had to report to the DPW before midnight Friday. They slept in the car for a few hours and got to work around 5am this AM. They called me on the phone to tell me a good Christian family took them in and fed them. They will sleep there tonight, instead of the car. They will work 12 hours tomorrow, but take off an hour to go to church with the family who put them up tonight. After working tomorrow for the city their 12 hours, they will come home with a check for 6 each. I suspect they will clean up for this family or have already done so as thanks for the charity and hospitality.
Could you take in two strangers? I have doubts I could. As for the small loan, they need to feed their families more than I need it repaid. They will pay when they get regular jobs again.
The are pretty raggedy looking me. They are poor, blacks without much education. One worked in a factory, the other a warehouse. They both lost their jobs in 2008. Unemployment is gone. They can only work odd jobs here and there. Do they deserve our help? Why or why not?

Today is the end of Holy week for Orthodox Christians – - do those who join the church at an Easter Vigil also "carry the cross" on the Friday beforehand? Thanks for replying to a Midwestern Protestant whose main contact with Greek Orthodoxy was by way of friends who loaned me the video "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" a few years ago. . .

I’m living in Boston and looking to buy an apartment building with "owner financing." Does anyone have any advice on how to go about doing this. Id est… contact an agent, et cetera? I’m not sure how to find an apartment building that will offer it, or if I’m suppose to make the offer directly, or have an agent do it for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

They get a massive loan to build a church, what happens when the church can’t make the payments? Do they get rid of the pastor or the building since they can’t afford both.
Tom Ben. that is the most hilarious thing i ever heard. Aren’t the pastors themselves trying to have the church that’s huge, its just like getting a bmw instead of a ford

why do you not pay taxes but stand by and watch as the poor and middle classes are over taxed and loan sharks charge mega boon interest when in the Old and New Testament are clear on not charging interest rates? And doing all you can for the poor then tell them welfare is a sin?
Not accusing just curious of the justification here.
Yep, I read and understood the teaching of the Bible.
I am poor and accused of being unimportant and unforgivable and a sinner because of being a single mom on welfare. However I will one day be a lawyer in the spirit of Moses the first law giver and JFK and Bobby Kennedy and MLK who tried to change and work for peace and benefits of those who are OPRESSED> Not support a billion dollar war that opresses and kills others.
If I sound embittered sorry, but I want to know why things are like this. It’s not the loving Jesus I know.
He got mad at selling stuff in the Church too.
Interest, old testament, Dueteromony law of Moses, read it, you’ll find it, it’s there but I aint looking it up for ya.

First there was my born-again accountant, with the picture of Jesus on his desk, who embezzled from me…

Then there was the church-going mortgage broker who always talked about his Bible study group. He took my money but never produced a mortgage…

Then there was the evangelical mechanic who charged me for things that he never even fixed.

Honestly, I think I’m going to seek out athiests and pagans to do business with from now on. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Surely the bank would charge interest and that could lead to *gasp* usury! Which is obviously forbidden by the Roman Catholic Church!

So what can devout Catholics do to avoid such sinful behavior?

I mean, since Roman Catholicism is *obviously* what Jesus had in mind, one can only think of the many prohibitions on interest that Jesus talked about…

I a have non self sufficent 25 yr old girlfriend who can’t even balance her own checkbook. She has a gullible, naive personality, (every sales persons dream!) Anyhow, she’s been ripped off apartment wise, vehicle financing wise, well the list can go on. She can’t cook, clean, sew, do laundry or even clean her cat’s litter box ET CETERA.
She actually had her mom do EVERYTHING for her. She recently moved in to her own place with roomates.. I’m just worried she won’t last a week there.. Hey! I would show her the ropes of life, but I can’t show her everything! Maybe a book would help?

Are there books that tell you how to do EVERYTHING!

Our old church sold the biulding we had & after paying off the mortgage they had over 0,000. The pastor feels he should get a lump sum from this as a retirement package. As far as we can tell he is looking for around 0,000. While we were still at the chuch & on the board we took good care of this man and his family. We paid him around 35K and we actualy gave him the church parsonage & continude to pay the mortgage & all utillities. Once the parsonage is personle property it gets taxed we paid that too & all property taxes scinc hes owned it. We gave him a car allowance & pay all the insurance gas maintainence repairs. Medical & life insurance are allso provided. On top of all this we set up a retirement package for him. Now he says he was never given a retirement plan. Imajine if you could put all the bills we paid in your retirement. His current board wants to give it to him 200,000 How can we stop this man from taking what was given to do the work of the church

Most churches are 501(c)(3) non-profits. Under the (IBR) Income-Based Repayment plan, it states that public service positions can get loans forgave in 10 years instead of 25 (well 20 after changes Obama mentioned tonight in the SOU address). One of the public service positions is defined as, "Your job is eligible if you are employed by any nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization" (http://www.ibrinfo.org/what.vp.html#eligible).

This sounds straight forward enough but then below that it says there are 2 test questions for any that don’t fit categories mentioned. It seems that this is only if its not a tax-exempt organization but the wording makes me wonder if there is an exclusion regardless. It states,
"(1) your employer is not "a business organized for profit, a labor union, a partisan political organization, or an organization engaged in religious activities, unless the qualifying activities are unrelated to religious instruction, worship services, or any form of proselytizing;""

It sounds like those positions are not considered public service then even if they are a 501(c)(3) but does it matter since they are registered that way tax wise?

I thank everyone in advance for their hopefully helpful informative responses. If anyone can give personal experience one direction or another on this question or cite direct evidence, it would be majorly appreciated!
After seeing the first answer that appears to think this is a common sense situation, I feel I must not have been clear enough.

This is more complicated because it only mentions the exclusions of religious worship, education, and such AFTER the statement saying;
"Your job is eligible if you:

* are employed by any nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization;
* are employed by the federal government, a state government, local government, or tribal government (this includes the military and public schools and colleges); or
* serve in a full-time AmeriCorps or Peace Corps position.

If you don’t meet these criteria, the Department of Education’s regulations create a two-part test of other circumstances under which you may still be eligible:"

The wording makes those restrictions seem only to apply IF you DONT fit criteria mentioned. So its not just common sense although i appreciate the try at answering even if you did not bother to follow the link and look at the details.

They treat people like garbage and are out for themselves.
You won’t find em doing volunteer work for habitat for
humanity or anything and they don’t go to church since
they would burst into flames if there is a god.

6 yrs ago my husband and four other men (all deacons) signed to borrow money to build a new sanctuary for our church. Since then-the church has just collapsed and there aren’t but a handful of people left out there. I am not sure how much is left owed on the church as we haven’t been attending there either. We recently started going back there again because we are a little concerned if the note will be paid or not. Since attending there lately-there still seems to be ALOT of controversy still and they are down to just a few families left and it seems to be still spiraling out of control. It is alot of ‘he said-she said’ problems. What should we do and what could happen financially for us?

I want to move out a few months after graduation (so I’ll only be 18). However, I’m kind of scared of the danger of living in an apartment. I get paranoid about strangers being close to me. I don’t want want to get robbed. Still, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle finance well with renting a house. What should I do?
